Long story short
My name is Blake Schossler (@blake_schossler). I’ve been working in the motorcycle industry since 2005. Starting in the shipping department at Exile Cycles, I eventually served as General Manager 2010-2015. During my time at Exile Cycles, I worked every position in the company; sales, assembly, fabrication.
The Hydraulic Clutch Cover
I have always commuted in Los Angeles on a Sportster. Over the years, I modified my motorcycles to better suit a city lane sharing purpose. I began using the best available components; brakes, suspension, master cylinders. Eventually, I wanted to covert to a hydraulic clutch. I was not satisfied with the available options. The Sportster transmission is different from the other Harley’s. It’s solid mainshaft prevents the use of a conventional hydraulic piston. So, I made my own clutch cover incorporating a double sealed hollow piston to release the clutch. I made a few by hand on manual machines and gave them to friends. After a couple months of testing, I decided to make a production run and build a website.(You can follow that progress in my old Instagram posts). My first customer purchased theirs on February 19th 2013.
Where did I go?
In October 2016 I was taken to the hospital for an illness and stayed there for 6 weeks. Over the next 14 months, I spent more than half of my days hospitalized. I was unable to fullfill orders, answer emails or maintain the Random Engineering website. So, I took it down in early 2017. Eventually, I received a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope. 139 days after transplant, I returned to part time office work. Progressing incrementally into normal daily work, I made a full recovery.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, I decided to rebuild a website and reopen Random Engineering.
Please, donate to cancer research, join the bone marrow registry and ride motorcycles.
